Our Founder

It's said that a good teacher inspires their students. That's our goal.

Professor "Kyoshi" Robert Austin

Master Instructor

Based in Fort Collins, Colorado USA, Professor Robert Austin is the Master Instructor and founder of International Black Belt Academies Inc.

He is also the current President of the United Martial Arts Alliance. Professor Austin is known internationally as a talented, energetic and professional Martial Arts Instructor who has been training in a variety of martial arts since the mid ’70s. Over his career, he has achieved Advanced Black Belt and Instructor Ranking in a variety of martial arts including Kenpo, Jujitsu, Kuntao Silat, Escrima, Go Shin Jitsu and TaeKwonDo. He calls the synthesis of these arts International Kenpo Karate Jujitsu and he now teaches his expression of "his teachers’ arts" at seminars around the globe. Professor Austin trains under some of the top Grand Masters in the world and often brings them into his schools. He and his schools have been featured in various martial arts publications both in the US and the UK including the covers of both MA Success and MA Pro magazines. What does all this mean to his students? Simply put, Professor Austin's success comes from truly caring about his students and their personal growth, not just as martial artists, but in their whole lives. This philosophy has been handed down to all the Black Belt Instructors that teach for him. Professor Austin's fun, energetic teaching style is infectious and is mirrored by all the instructors he inspires on a daily basis. The lessons he shares are full of variety and depth and are challenging and always a lot of fun! Professor Austin has been changing lives on and off the mat for years and has a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of those he serves.

I am very glad to be the lead instructor at the Greeley school!”

Kailyn SMITH

Instructor

Kailyn Smith began her Martial Arts journey in May of 2007 under the instruction of Professor Robert Austin and Kyoshi James Denning. If you know Kailyn now, you would not believe it when you hear she was very shy before she began IBBA Karate! She made her way up in the program with hard work and dedication and is now a 2nd Degree Black Belt in International Kenpo Karate Ju-Jitsu. Long before she was hired on as an office employee, Kailyn volunteered to assist instructing classes and in the office. She worked her way into people’s hearts and earned the role as an instructor at age 19. She is bubbly, kind, patient, and always energetic. Along with teaching other classes, Kailyn is now the Director of the Dragons program and provides an educational experience for both kids and parents while keeping a structured and fun class. As the New Student Representative, she helps every new student find the perfect program for their needs. We are proud to say that Kailyn is also a Certified Fitness Instructor through AFAA Fitness and coaches Kickboxing and Yoga.

Kailyn loves to dance like nobody’s watching, spend time with her family, walk her horse, and cuddle her dog. “I believe everyone should be true to themselves and find their rhythm, starting as a child. One of my goals is to pave the way for female martial artists to be brave and follow their dreams and still feel beautiful doing it. I’m here to stand up and show the world you can be strong, kind, graceful and classy at the same time. I want everyone who walks into my class to smile at the thought of Karate and to always have a place in their heart for IBBA. I want to make an impact.”

Demitris Skipwith

Instructor
Mr. Demitris Skipwith has been a student at Mountain States International Black Belt Academy for many years. He is now a 2nd Degree Black Belt and an instructor at the Greeley school. “When I started here I was a very shy, timid child. I would be that person who kept himself out of all the fun and adventurous activities that life has to offer because of low self-esteem.

If you had told me when I first started that I would one day become an instructor, I would have said you were crazy. Now I love what I do so much that I could not imagine doing anything else.” Over his time at International Black Belt Academy, Mr. Skipwith has grown into a more confident person and says he owes it all to the fantastic instructors and training partners he has met here over the years.

Debbie Smith
