Advice from a Black Belt on reaching your goals:
Setting and reaching goals can be challenging, but until we know what we want, we won’t know how to get it. Here are some tips from a 2nd Degree Black Belt on how to reach your goals in martial arts that apply to all areas of life! Think about what you really want and use these tips to get started.
- Be persistent
- don’t give up even if you feel bored or things get hard
- remember what you’re working toward to overcome the slumps and challenges
- Be consistent
- keep showing up even when you don’t feel like it
- doing the work will make you glad you did and help you motivate you to do it again next time
- daily progress is what will get you there, just keep building the habit
- Be a planner
- have a plan on how to reach your goal
- break down the steps and set timelines, make them SMART goals
- Be goal oriented
- think big! You have to know what you’re aiming for.
- share your goals with friends, family, and teachers so they can support and encourage you
- Be creative
- you can practice anywhere, anytime (commercial breaks, brushing your teeth, walking the dog)
- visualization can be a big part of reaching your goals, and you can do that anywhere!
Who do you want to be? Start by being persistent, consistent, a planner, goal-oriented, and creative and you’ll be on your way!
